DJ_SHEMA CfA: Intern Position at Balkan Civil Society Development Network,
Skopje, Macedonia (deadline: 15.12.2005)

The Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC), a civil
society organization based in Skopje, Macedonia , is looking for an
intern to assist in the work of the Secretariat of the Balkan Civil
Society Development Network (BCSDN). The internship will take place at
MCIC's headquarter in Skopje, Macedonia . The internship position is
unpaid, but accommodation and daily travel expenses will be covered.
MCIC is not able to provide travel costs to Macedonia as well a costs
related to medical and travel insurance. The internship will run for a
period of 3 to 6 months starting on January 2006 or based on
individual agreement between the candidate and MCIC.

Expected tasks:

· to assist in organizing, administering ongoing BCSDN projects;

· to be responsible for managing individual project stages or
task of related to BCSDN projects (incl. coordination with BCSDN
partners, organization of activities, administration);

· to assist in developing information-sharing activities
(including identification, selection and editing of relevant news
articles, help with up-dating BCSDN website);

· to conduct targeted research on different issues for the
needs of BCSDN.



The intern will assist and be responsible to the Coordinator of the
BCSDN Secretariat.



Intern profile:

· Graduate or post-graduate student in area of international
relations, political science, development, or experienced NGO
activist;

· Interested, motivated on working on regional issues;

· Good knowledge of civil society and some knowledge on civil
society in the region;

· Excellent knowledge in spoken and written English;

· Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Power Point and
web editing);

· Flexible, resourceful, confident, team player and able to
assist with a variety of different tasks simultaneously;

· Good communication skills;

· Knowledge of local languages (Macedonian, Serbian, Croatia,
Bosnian, Albanian, Bulgaria, Romanian) preferred and previous
experiences in working with CSOs preferred.

BCSDN is a network of 12 civil society and ecumenical organizations
from 7 countries/territories in the Balkan region ( Albania, Bulgaria
, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, including
Kosovo) committed to sustainable peace and stability, prosperity,
harmony in our societies in the Balkan region. Our mission is to
strengthen civil society through developing indigenous civil society
concepts, practices and empowering civil society actors. The network
has been initiated in 2003 and focuses its work on capacity-building
of its members and other CSOs in the region in areas of their needs
and promoting cooperation and partnership between CSOs. The network
organizes trainings, exchange activities, workshops and
information-sharing activities such as publication of Balkan Civic

International Scholars Fellowship Program

The International Scholars Fellowship Program invites highly-qualified scholars
in the social sciences and humanities to teach and/or consult at selected
university departments in Southeastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and
Mongolia.

The program welcomes applications from scholars holding PhDs in anthropology,
area/cultural studies, gender studies, economics, history, political science,
international relations, psychology, public administration, philosophy, social
work, sociology, human rights & public law, and journalism/media studies.
Candidates apply to teach outside their country of citizenship and must hold a
PhD from a Western-accredited university. The Academic Fellowship Program
(AFP) operates in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Romania, Russia, Serbia and
Montenegro, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.

The program offers two arrangements:
Resident International Scholars live in the host country and teach courses for
one academic year at partner universities. Fellows also work on a variety of
projects within their host departments, and benefit from the diverse academic
network connecting AFP program countries.
Non-resident International Scholars share their expertise with host departments
on a consulting basis, visiting the institution for several short consultations
and remaining in contact for mentoring and advice between visits. Non-resident
fellows are senior or well-established academics; recent PhD recipients will not
be considered.
Fellowship packages include a stipend, transportation, and accommodation.
Resident fellows also receive health insurance and various other allowances,
including professional development funds.

Application deadline: February 15, 2006.
Applications may be accepted after the deadline if fellowships remain unfilled.
Fellowships begin in August or September 2006 and normally last one academic
year, with the possibility of renewal.

DJ_SHEMA EXTERNAL EVALUATIONS - SERBIA AND MACEDONIA

The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) is soliciting two external
evaluations to be conducted on its ongoing projects with Roms in the
Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia.

ECMI and Roms in South East Europe

In the context of conducting the first global needs assessment of the
Romani population of Macedonia in 2003, ECMI undertook a similar project in
Serbia & Montenegro in fall 2004. Follow-on initiatives in both Macedonia
and Serbia are currently underway. As the projects#180; second and first years
(respectively) conclude with calendar year 2006, an external evaluation is
required to assess the projects#180; success in generating the expected
results. For more information on ECMI and its activities with Roms, please

Qualifications

· A minimum of 2-3 years experience in substantive evaluation,
project design and/or project management;
· At least a passive knowledge of Macedonian/Serbian;
· Excellent written English;
· Familiarity with the living conditions of Roms in Macedonia/Serbia;
· The ability to work under time pressure.

Job Descriptions

Serbia: As the follow-on to ECMI#180;s assessment in Serbia and Montenegro
approaches the end of its first year, ECMI is in the process of organizing
an external evaluation to be conducted over the period 3-9 September
2006. This evaluation involves extensive in-country travel and carries an
honorarium of EUR 2 000.

Macedonia: This evaluation is for a follow-on project nearing the end of
its second year. The timeframe for this evaluation is 24-28 October 2006,
with an honorarium of EUR 1 500.

For both evaluations, costs for international and in-country travel, hotel
accommodation, and a daily subsistence allowance in accordance with German
regulations will be covered by ECMI.
